1:50th Scale Sandvik DT1130i Jumbo Drill

Sandvik DT1130i Jumbo Drill

The DT1130 is a machine used for tunneling and cavern excavation work, using three TB150 telescopic booms with HFX5T rock drills which deliver superior performance and long life. As well as the three booms, an optional basket boom can be fitted for utility and bolting work. The TC11 carrier has a 148hp engine with Clark transmission and a HP575 powerpack with 75kW 3-phase motor. The 1:50th scale model from Conrad is an excellent replica with a host of functional parts and detailing throughout capturing every aspect of the brand new DT1130i machine.

Two rear stabilisers are mounted behind the rear wheel arch and can be lowered to give a stable footing for the model. The rear wheels have working steering with a good degree of turn.

The front of the model features a double set of wheels with authentic treaded rubber tyres along with two more stabilisers which extend from the chassis with screw threaded pads that can be lowered to raise the wheels off the ground.

Access steps have been cast into the main body panels on each side giving easy access to the large, enclosed operators station.

The entire cab can be elevated via a two stage central support and side fitted ladders, complete with grab rails extend with the cab which is a great touch on the model.

The main centrally located operator station has a contoured seat with display panels and controls for operating the three main drill booms.

Visibility is excellent due to the one piece large front windscreen complete with printed windscreen wipers.

Accurately scaled grab rails have been added to the cab frame with front and rear facing work lights integrated into the roof, complete with silver painted lenses.

The enclosed cab features a replicated interior with two separate stations. The raised seating position at the rear of the cab is used for manoeuvring the machine with the operator sitting side on giving a good view of the rear of the machine.

In travel position, the three drill booms and auxiliary basket boom can be lowered and angled to reduce the space required to manoeuvre the vehicle. Once in position, the booms can be fully positioned to the chosen height and angle and each drill mast is mounted to a three stage telescoping boom giving an amazing degree of movement and range.

Each drill mast is connected to the boom via a linkage which offers rotational and angular movement in both an X and Y axis and this part of the model fully replicates the movement of the full sized machine.

The drill motor slides smoothly along the mast and a metal drill rod with detailed drill tip is fitted to each mast.

The two section telescopic boom mounted to the chassis is fitted with a workman basket, used for utility and bolt driving purposes.

The basket has all round railings and roof panel for total operator safety and can be both tilted and rotated to obtain the perfect reach.

As well as the motor sliding, the mast can also slide along the the frame mounted to the boom tip and all this functionality shows just how much engineering has gone into producing this amazing and unusual model.

In my opinion, this model is one of the most detailed Conrad have produced with every functional aspect of the full sized machine captured in great detail. The weight of the model is also impressive and is one of the aspects of Conrad models which always gives a feel of quality and solid construction. The model is securely held in a two section polystyrene carton with outer printed cardboard box and is scheduled to be released at the Toy Fair in February.
